Hemet Lions Club

Charitable Projects

All funds to fulfill the obligations of the Hemet Lions’ charitable work are raised at the Hemet Lions Resource Center, 119 S. Inez St., Hemet. Telephone 951-929-2344. Staffed by volunteer Lions on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, the Center is also open 24 hours per day for acceptance of donated paper, aluminum, glass bottles or jars, and plastics. This is a State of California authorized community collection site.

The Hemet Lions are devoted to providing affordable eyecare to those in need. Some of our projects include:

  • Volunteer Hemet Lions staff their Eyeglass Resource Center receiving and screening up to 40,000 pairs of used glasses yearly for distribution to third world countries.
  • The Hemet Lions, along with the Friends Across The Border, visit Tecate, Mexico monthly to provide vision tests and free glasses for poor people in cooperation with the Tecate Lions Club.

  • The volunteers also attend numerous homeless/health faires throughout the Inland Empire to perform vision screening and provide donated eyeglasses to the needy.

We are also active in our local community. We provide the following:

  • Every fourth grade student passes through the health bus donated by the Hemet Lions for the Hemet School District, where they are checked for physical, vision and hearing problems by school nurses.
  • Strong financial support is given to the Community Pantry to feed low-income families.
  • College scholarships totaling $3,000 are awarded each year to outstanding scholar-athletes of Hemet High School. Top students are honored quarterly and at an annual banquet.
  • Regular monthly financial support is provided to the Guide Dogs of the Desert to further their work in providing guide dogs and training for visually handicapped people at their Palm Springs area facility. Regular contributions are also made to the City of Hope, Hemet Hospice and other local programs. Hemet Lions collect aluminum can tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Membership is maintained in the Ear of the Lion Hearing Foundation to provide low cost examinations and hearing aids for hearing impaired people. The Foundation provides support for treatment and prevention of deafness and produces educational programs on hearing conservation. The Hemet Lions collect many used hearing aids for the Foundation’s use.
